Frosts Landscape Construction - Commercial landscaping specialists

Fortnum & Mason St Pancras

St Pancras Station, London

Frosts are pleased to have been awarded a 2014 eFig Interior landscaping 'Gold Leaf' award for this project in the Design and Installation category.

It is well known that when Frosts do something, they do it on a very different scale; which can be said when they were asked to put a Christmas tree in St Pancras Rail Station, London.

Frosts Landscape Construction was commissioned by Fortnum & Mason, London to install and decorate a Christmas tree to mark the launch of their first new store in more than 300 years, located within the busy St Pancras train station.

Our Christmas display experts sourced a 47 year old Norwegian Spruce 13.1 metre tree (43ft), weighing 1.5 tonnes. Following eight weeks of planning and over 600 man hours, the tree was installed over five consecutive nights. It is decorated with over 8,000 bulbs, 1000 metres of Fortnum & Mason ribbon and hundreds of their iconic Fortnum & Mason hampers.

The project required the use of two specialist spider cranes, a fork lift truck, two 60ft mobile platforms, a structural engineer for the stand (which alone weighed 500kg), flame retardant specialists and crane and transport professionals.

All works had to be carried out overnight on successive days to ensure no disruption to the Public and the smooth running of a busy St. Pancras station. This gave the team only a six hour window each night to get set up, carry out the works and ensure everything was tidied away by 5am in the morning. Health and Safety was paramount and Frosts Landscapes had to coordinate the planned works with Network Rail, High Speed One and Fortnum & Mason down to the finest detail.

Frosts have built a strong relationship with Fortnum & Mason and have worked with them for over eight years.  Ken White, Managing Director at Frosts Landscape Construction said: “It is considered an honour that Fortnum & Mason entrusted us with this important and very public task. The planning was meticulous to ensure we caused as little disruption as possible and the tree was erected in the shortest time to give the public the wow factor. The finished tree is stunning for visitors to the Capital and for commuters over the Christmas holidays.”
