Milton Keynes Council
The works comprise grass cutting, wildflower management, weed control to soft surfaces, and encroachment pruning. The contract covers a large geographical area and runs to several hundred hectares of work area.
Due to the size of the contract there is a dedicated Contracts Manager involved with the day to day running of the contract with up to twenty dedicated staff employed during the growing season. At contract start Frosts successfully consulted with and took over 13 Council staff on TUPE.
With more than 225 Hectares of amenity grass cutting required, the grass cutting team continuously mow from March to the end of October (a bit like painting the Forth Bridge!) A combination of tractors including ride on out front mowers and batwings are used to keep the grass neatly maintained.
During the winter the focus switches to pruning back of trees and shrubs and cutting hedges across the Milton Keynes housing estates and rural villages. Where suitable, tractors and side arm flails are used to get through the miles of hedge cutting completed each season.
Frosts have carried out a number of improvement projects across the City in addition to the maintenance works to enhance or modify the landscape features to make them more suitable and inviting to the public but also to help make efficiency savings on the main contract going forward.
This has been Frosts first large scale venture into Local Authority maintenance works and the feedback and reaction from the public has been very positive, many citing the improvements we have made in the areas we maintain.
