Millenium Gardens

University of Nottingham

The initial design theme for the garden was based on the inner workings of an old clock, symbolising time and celebrating the beginning of the millennium and a new era. Each ‘cog’ has its own characteristics, with the garden becoming a series of linked spaces, which retains the entity of the whole but also creates a feeling of intimacy in many areas. Each ‘cog’ symbolises a season and passing of time, one into the other, culminating in the turf maze.

Much of the planting has been chosen for interest which will overlap into different seasons, so planting will offer variety, in the form of flowers, fruit and colour in sequential steps.  Species have been chosen for their high proportion of interest within the academic year as opposed to during the summer when the academics and students are away.

Main features of the garden are the Turf maze and Colour Garden.
