Olympic World Food Day

11th June 2013

'Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition' is this year’s theme for World Food Day.  In advance of this, on the 5th June 2013 the Olympic Park held its own World Food Day.  Frosts Landscape Construction Ltd (while working on the Transformation works) were asked by BAM Nuttall to install a small vegetable plot 4m2 at the South Entrance showing a range of plants that can be grown in a small area.  Carrots, cabbage, onions, leaks, corn, courgettes, cauliflower, peppers and pumpkins were planted.

A water butt and watering can were left by the plot, and each row was labelled to show the three to four thousand people working on the Olympic Park the variety of vegetables that can be grown.  The plot was only supposed to raise interest for one day, but BAM Nuttall’s environmental staff have now asked Frosts to keep the vegetable plot and let it grow so the Olympic Park operatives can see how it develops.

Now all we have to do is water, sit and wait.
