Love Your Garden, Woburn Sands ITV Series with Alan Titchmarsh

Frosts Landscape Construction was commissioned to Design and Construct eight gardens for the fourth television series of Love Your Garden fronted by RHS ambassador Alan Titchmarsh. The second garden of the series belongs to Claire and Ian Estick.

The second garden of the series belongs to Claire and Ian Estick. They established a charity after losing their son very suddenly at just 23 months old, providing memory boxes for bereaved families.

The family enjoy gardening and particularly love growing vegetables. The family wanted a garden that can accommodate their two children, whilst providing them with a space to entertain. A challenge of the site was to blend out its undulating levels and the need to amend the sharp draining sandy soil with large volumes of imported loamy soil.

The Estick family wanted a garden that could be enjoyed by the entire family, with separate but integrated zones for:

  • alfresco cooking and dining
  • a kitchen garden
  • quiet relaxation
  • children’s play area including a climbing structure
  • robust lawn area for football and other ball games

The ‘grown up’ relaxation zone was orientated so that a watchful eye could be kept over the children at play but from a discrete distance, safely screened from wayward footballs.

Claire and Ian cherish a memory of happy times spent with their late son planting and growing sunflowers and the sunflower has been adopted as the logo for their charity. The kitchen garden geometry was inspired by a sunflower head with rays radiating out to define the herb and vegetable beds and features a mosaic panel of a sunflower head at this centre.
