Trials but no Tribulations
Don’t be put off by the challenges of the building. Green roofs and living walls can go anywhere, at any height, with any aspect or level of exposure – after selection the right Landscaping Contractor, it’s all about selecting the right plant species and ensuring that they are fully developed and rooted before going into any harsh environment.
The Peacehaven project (Water Treatment Works near Brighton) is a prime example where we carried out trials on seven different substrates (at 15 degrees) in order to know which would be the most suitable for the scheme. The project had been in the planning for some 16 years and the green roof (16,200m2) was a major factor for this scheme getting approval, so getting a product which was sensitive to the local area and chosen specifically for the gradient of the roof was an important part of our tender process.
The use of project collaboration tools is important for document management and aids communication throughout the lifecycle of the project. Our Project Management team are trained in products such as BIW, Business Collaborator, ICOS Net, Asite, Humming Bird, DOME (O&M), and SHE Online.
Frosts Vertiscapes Module
Our new FVM module is the next generation in living wall technology and was subject to a lengthy development period in order to achieve optimum performance.
The features of the FVM include:
- Additional depth of the module increases longevity and allows the use of a much broader spectrum of plant material.
- Intelligent bespoke irrigation system.
- Unique 3-in-1 panel design allows the module to be cut to suit different installation requirements without comprising its integrity or that of the irrigation system.
- Simple and quick to install.
- Suitable for either new build or retro-fit installation.
The design of the FVM enhances our ability to tailor planting schemes to meet the particular needs of our clients, based upon elevation and biodiversity requirements. The module is planted off-site for minimum impact on your team and mounted directly onto a steel frame for speed. The entire FVM modular system could be installed within four days, depending on the size of the project.
Frosts Vertiscapes are committed to sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of the products they use, and are pleased to have the FVM manufactured in the UK from 100% recycled material.
